Nearly 90 people have been killed after heavy rain triggered flash floods in and around Leh, the main town in Indian occupied Kashmir’s high-altitude Ladakh region, police said on Friday.
“At least 88 bodies have been recovered and dozens are still missing,” a police spokesman said from Leh by telephone.
More than 300 have been reported injured, he added.
Ladakh is a mountainous, Buddhist-dominated region, sitting in the southeastern part of Muslim-majority Kashmir, and is popular with adventure tourists interested in high-altitude trekking and river running.
