Pakistan People’s Party leader and former President Supreme Court Bar Association Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan stressed the need for providing maximum medical facilities in flood-hit areas to prevent the spread of epidemic.
Addressing a press conference at Lahore Press Club on Thursday, he urged the lawyers to come forward for the help of flood affected people and join hands with Pakistan Medical Association in the regard.
Aitzaz said formal letters had already been sent to
presidents of all bar associations in the country appealing to the “black coats” to join the efforts of “white coats”.
He said there was nothing the lawyers could do directly to attend to people’s medical needs but they should at least encourage and support our brothers and sisters in the medical field.
He said 20 per cent of our people were directly affected or displaced and millions of children in need of immediate medical care and protection from epidemic and diseases.
Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan told media that he had a meeting with president Pakistan Medical Association Dr. Tipu Sultan and they both agreed to make a national call for collaboration of doctors and lawyers, a kind of joint efforts of white coats and black coats.
He said the PMA and its members were providing sterling and critically important services to flood victims throughout the flooded areas. But sometimes, and at some places, the efforts of these dedicated doctors were seriously handicapped, he added.
He said the doctors needed premises to set up medical camps for examinations, inoculation and prescription of medicines.
Aitzaz appealed to the bar associations to provide their premises to doctors so that they could set up temporary medical camps to attend the hapless flood victims.
He further said that first “black coat-white coat medical camp” was opened in Thattha during Eid holidays with the cooperation of president Thattha bar.
He said medical camps would soon be set up in Dera Ghazi Khan, Taunsa Sharif, Jalapura Pirwala, Jand, Piplan, Jacobabad, Badin, Nawabshah, Naushero Feroz, Ghotki and Khairpur by the PMA.
Replying to a question about Pervez Musharraf, Ahsan said that he should come back immediately as nobody stopped him from coming back.
On a query, he urged the nation to work jointly for the rehabilitation of flood affected.
