Minister of State for Communication Chaudhary Imtiaz Safdar Warraich on Thursday said that Pakistan has been extending legal and diplomatic assistance to Dr. Aafia Siddiqui during her trial in the US court and it would keep on extending this assistance in future also.
Talking to a private television channel the minister said that the sentence of Dr.Aafia was an unfortunate development and government would study the verdict to explore legal option for her release.
The minister said that Dr.Aafia was handed over to foreigners by the previous government while the government had been making sincere efforts for her release.
He said that the Government of Pakistan has no influence on the US courts but it would keep on its legal and diplomatic efforts for the release of Dr. Aafia.
To a question the minister said that Pakistan paid $ 2 millions to the lawyer who was defending Dr. Aafia in the US court.
