President PML(Q) Ch. Shujaat Hussain has said that his party wants the present government to complete its tenure `so that its performance could be fully tested’.
Addressing the ‘Meet the Press’ programme of Karachi Press Club here Sunday, Ch. Shujaat said that whatever they have done and will do in future, would be for the greater national interest.
He said that his party would not favour any dictatorial rule in the country adding had former president Pervez Musharraf not indulged in controversies with the judiciary, the Lal Masjid issue or Bugti, he could have prolonged his tenure.
“Musharraf committed mistakes which forced his exit,” Ch. Shujaat said.
Referring to a question about the support his party gave to former president Musharraf during his tenure, Ch. Shujaat maintained that the PML (Q) supported the then President Pervez Musharraf in the national interest.
Earlier, addressing the media, PML(Q) secretary general Mushahid Hussain Syed said that today there are only two parties which represent the people in the four provinces and Gilgit Baltistan and identified them as PPP and PML(Q).
“During the last elections PPP got 10.5 million votes, PML (Q) 8 million and PML(N) 6.8 million votes,” Mushahid said.
Mushahid said that PML(Q) wants a unified Muslim League and that is the reason that they approached Pir Sahib Pagaro for merger of Muslim League.
He said that they have invited other parties even Imran Khan to join the alliance.
“Political merger is good for the country and well being of the people of Pakistan,” he opined.
