Eight people were killed and 12 injured on Sunday as a speeding van taking Christians to a religious ceremony in Maryamabad, hit a roadside tree.
According to police, the van was going to Khankah Dogran to participate in the Maryamabad religious fair. It met the accident when the driver tried to save the van from an overtaking bus.
The vehicle went out of control and crashed into a tree along the road at Sarkari, Sargodha Road, in Farooqabad Sadar police limits.
Resultantly, eight people died on the spot and 12 were injured who were shifted to the district headquarters hospital.
Police said the dead were identified as Vicky Masih, Gulfam Ashraf, Emanual while others could not identified. Mithu, Chanda, Chan Masih, Peter, Ashfaq and Karamat were among the injured.
