As many as six plazas including more than 200 shops caught fire early in the morning at Mochi Gate, the densely populated commercial area on Monday.
According to Rescue Services 1122, about 24 injured people have been rescued so far and shifted to Mayo hospital.
Almost all concerned departments, including police, civil defence, city district government and 1122 rushed to the affected area and started the rescue work.
The fire broke out in a plaza, Bahria Centre around 8:00 am and spread out to adjoining buildings including Safaid masjid, six plazas as well as the residential area.
Chemicals, perfumes, toys etc worth million of rupees were gutted.
According to police sources Bahria Centre collapsed causing major damage and injuries. Police said short circuiting could be the reason of the fire.
According to the emergency services Mayo Hospital, 13 persons, including some with burn injuries were under treatment, while 11 with minor injuries were released after necessary first aid.
However, the concerned authorities were fighting to control the huge blaze till filing of this report.
