The 21st death anniversary of Pakistan’s famous playback singer of Urdu and Punjabi films Mala observed on Tuesday.
According to a private TV channel, she was born in Faisalabad. Her real name was Naseem Nazli. She was interested in singing and music from a young age.
Fortunately, her elder sister happened to be her first music teacher and Naseem learnt the essentials of music from her.
Mala was a top female singer and only the second best to Madam Mala as playback singer. She sung many super hit songs in almost two decades singing career in the 60s/70s.
Prominent musician G.A. Chishti introduced her in a Punjabi film but she got breakthrough from film Mehboob.
Mala faded out of the popular music scene towards the late seventies and died on March 6,1990.
