Sri Lanka elects to bat against India in WC final

By: Monitoring Desk, Uploaded: 2nd April 2011

Sri Lanka won the toss on the big Saturday and elected to bat against India in the first ever all Asian World Cup final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

India have made only one change. Sreesanth has been included ahead of R Ashwin in place of Ashish Nehra in the team.

A Mathews, A Mendis, Herath and Chamara Silva are out for Sri Lanka. N Perera, Suraj Randiv, K Kulasekara and Chamara Kapugedera are playing the final.

The showdown will be the last on-field duel between Sachin Tendulkar and Muttiah Muralitharan — the best batsman and the most successful bowler of the era.

The pitch will have seam in the beginning of the game but will spin later. The team that wins the toss should choose to bat first. Experts say, the batting side need to bat well in first ten overs to set a defending score.
