AJK elections polling ends, counting begins

Polling for 38 seats out of 41 of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections ended and the counting was underway here on Sunday. Clashes between rival groups at some spots get violent leaving three people killed, AAJ News reported.

As many as 390 candidates from 22 political and religious parties, besides independent candidates are contesting the elections.

AJK elections are being held on the 38 seats of the Legislative Assembly, while polling for three seats LA-30 Karachi Jammu-1, La-36 Karachi Kashmir valley-1 and LA-41 Abbotabad has been postponed.

4,349 polling stations was set up for casting votes in 29 state and 12 Mohajereen constituencies out of which 626 have been declared highly sensitive, 886 and 2,854 normal.

Polling started at 8.00 A.M. in the morning and continued without break up at 5.00 P.M.

A strong contingent of 27,000 police and rangers was deployed, while two brigades of troops was also stand-by for holding peaceful elections
