The 65th Independence day of Pakistan was celebrated in the port city with traditional zeal and national spirit on Sunday.
The Day dawned in the provincial capital with 21 guns salute while special prayers were held at mosques for prosperity and development of the country.
Flag hoisting ceremonies were organized in all garrisons and units of Armed Forces here.
The main program of the day started with Change of guard ceremony at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, where Pakistan Naval Academy cadets assumed the guards’ duties.
The chief guest Commodore Muhammad Abid Rana, inspected the guard of honour, laid floral wreath and offered fateha at the Mazar to pay homage to the founder of the nation.
Later, Sindh Governor, Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan, Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah along with members of the Sindh cabinet visited mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah to pay homage.
They laid floral wreaths, offered fateha and marked their impressions in the visitors’book at the Mazar.
Sindh Home Minister, Manzoor Hussain Wassan, Sindh Minister for Local Bodies, Agha Siraj Durrani, Administrator Karachi, Fazal-ur- Rehman, DCO Karachi Muhammad Hussain Syed, MQM leaders, Syed Sardar Ahmed, Raza Haroon, Babar Ghauri, Abdul Haseeb, Rauf Siddiqi, PML-F Leader Imtiaz Sheikh, ANP leader, Ameer Nawab Khan, PML-Q leaders, Haleem Siddiqi, Ejaz Sheerazi and other notables also visited the Mazar-e-Quaid alongwith the Governor and Chief Minister. DCO Karachi Mohammed Hussain Syed hoisted national flag at Cituy Goernment headquarters at civic centre.
The representatives of three Armed Forces also laid floral wreaths and offered fateha at mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah to pay homage to the great leader.
Acting Director General Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, Brig. Zafar Iqbal also visited Mazar-e-Quaid, laid floral wreath and offered fateha.
Students of the various educational institutions were also gathered at the Mazar to participate in various contests organised to celebrate the Independence day.
Different educational institutions, sports organisations and welfare bodies also organised rallies, seminars and other events to highlight the importance of Independence Day of Pakistan.
