The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has bifurcated its organisational set-up in Punjab province into PPP Southern and PPP Central Punjab to effectively manage party affairs and deal with people’s issues.
“Makhdoom Shahabuddin has been appointed President of PPP Southern Punjab and Chaudhry Safdar Imtiaz Warraich President of Central Punjab”, said PPP Information Secretary Qamar Zaman Kaira here on Friday.
He was briefing newsmen after the meeting of senior party leaders and office-bearers, mostly from Punjab, which was presided over by President and PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari at Bilawal House.
The meeting was also attended by Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khosa, Senator Babar Awan, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Fauzia Wahab, Rukhsana Bangash, Raja Riaz and Chaudry Imtiaz Safdar Warraich.
Responding to a question about the recent public rally of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in Lahore, he said that the rally was held to divert attention from internal frustration and political isolation of the party.
The former Information Minister said that corruption was an issue and PPP was ready to eliminate it from the country with the help of political forces. He said that the accountability bill would be tabled in the Parliament soon, which is expected to be passed with a thumping majority.
