PHILIPPINES: A grenade was thrown into a cockfighting ring in Southern Philippines which resulted in 3 people dead and 33 other injured.

As per the reports of Chief Superintendent Conrado Salinas, a grenade blew off in an area within the small town of Aleosan. More than hundred people had gathered to witness the cockfight.

Cockfights are a popular past-time in the Philippines, attracting scores of gamblers who bet on the fights between the birds.

Witnesses in the area claimed that they saw the grenade thrower and they considered him to be a local resident. Police officials are currently tracing the culprit.

The Police Chief assumed that the offender lost his money in previous cock fight and wanted to level the score.

The southern Philippines area witnesses such events on regular intervals. This is because of prevalent availability of weapons due to long stint of fighting involving soldiers, communist rebels, Muslim separatists and other armed groups.
