Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Saturday said the restoration of 1973 Constitution in its original form, which was disfigured by the dictators, was the biggest ever achievement of the PPP Government which came to power with the support of masses.
Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating a Sui gas project for the people of Narowal, the Prime Minister said the dictators could not take any decision on the National Finance Commission Award and again it was the credit of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and its allies, which took the decision and announced the NFC Award to ensure the rights to all provinces.
Gilani said only the PPP coalition government could ensure the sanctity of the Constitution.
He said the right of self-government was given to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan by the PPP and giving the identity of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was also on its credit.
Gilani said after 100 years, the people of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) got their right through reforms done by the PPP government.
Now the Seraiki Province will also be created by the PPP, he added.
Referring to the threat of long march by the provincial government against the Federal Government, the Prime Minister said the PPP enjoyed the support of the masses from all the provinces, therefore, the claims for long march by the opposition could not get people’s support.
He said as prime minister it was his first visit to Narowal headquarter. Tthough the local members of the National Assembly are not from the PPP that indicate that the Federal Government wants to provide basic needs of life to the people across the board without any discrimination, he added.
He said Narowal was once the home of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto and all the seven seats were won by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
He said Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was sentenced to death for the crime to give self-respect to the masses, identity, right of vote and courage to speak to the people.
Gilani said it was the credit of Bhutto who gave the slogan of “one man one vote” to bring the common man equal to the influential and after that the people used that force and voted the PPP to the power. He said the PPP considered the people as a source of strength in the democratic system.
The Prime Minister said due to the self-respect given by Bhutto now the common man was fully aware of his rights and could not be deceived by those politicians who were just rasing slogans.
“The PPP is a name of mission, idealogy and movement and all the people in the party are loyal to it and they remained in the party despite sentences and lashes,” he said.
The Prime Minister said President Asif Ali Zardari remained in the jail for eleven years and he remained in jail for five years but they remained loyal and committed to party and never compromised.
He said, “We will not allow to damage the cause of democracy and self-respect of the people.”
Gilani said those who had not even seen Bhutto were raising slogans for Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
He said. “The people of Narowal are courageous and we did not care they are either with the PPP or not but giving them due respect and hounour as they are Pakistanis.”
He said the Sui gas project, inaugurated by him today as the cost of Rs1.5 billion, was only to provide gas to the local people of Narowal despite the fact that the local MNAs were not from the PPP.
The Prime Minister said the PPP had a manifesto and the success of any party could be judged from the implementation of its manifesto. He said, “We have implemented 80 percent of the manifesto of the party and in all the bye-elections in the country, the PPP or its allies won these elections so this is the yard stick for the success of the party.”
He said those, who were opposing the government, always came to power on the crutches of some one but the PPP always came to power through the support of the masses.
“We are following the thoughts, thinking, mission, manifesto and programme of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto,” he added.
He said they should go for long march when there was dictator in power, judges were in the jails and restriction on the media.
The Prime Minister while pointing to Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif, said, “You should come to Pakistan and fight for the rights of the people, but you went to Jeddah after agreement.
He said the PPP was struggling for the rights of people, for the restoration of judges and to lift the restrictions on the media, while the PML-N leadership was in Jeddah.
About Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister said one brother said he did not accept the President, the other said he did not accept Prime Minister and now the third leader of that party said he did not accept Speaker of the National Assembly.
The Prime Minister said development projects worth Rs3 billion alone had been completed in Narowal district that included projects of electricity, gas, roads, and other programmes.
The Prime Minister said Rs 50 crore were given to the Punjab Government for the road which had not been completed. He announced that he would investigate the matter.
The Prime Minister announced a grant of Rs2 million for the Narowal District Bar Association. He also announced a separate grant of Rs1 million for the Zafarwal Bar Association.
Gilani announced Rs1 million each for the Narowal Press Club and the National Electronic Media Club Narowal.
The Prime Minister also announced to set up Shakar Garh Passport office and an other passport office in Narowal City. He also announced to upgrade Shakar Garh NADRA office.
He directed Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme Farzana Raja to include all the deserving women in this programme. He said that he was told that Rs50 crore had already been distributed among the desriving people in Narowal district through the BISP to provide them financial help.
The Prime Minister announced Rs500,000 each for the two victims of dacoity and Rs200,000 each for those who were injured in this incident.
He also announced Rs500,000 each to five students who died in a school when the roof was collapsed in Narowal. He also announced Rs200,000 each for the five students who injured in this incident and Rs100,000 each for 25 students who received minor injuries.
The Prime Minister while accepting the demand of the local investors, announced to set up an Economic Zone in Narowal to promote investment in the area and directed the Board of Investment and other departments concerned to take immediate measures in this regard.
