By: Farrukh Shabbir, Uploaded: 18th May 2012

Punjab University students staged a protest in the wake of their fellow student’s murder in Lahore, today. Aaj News reported.

Armed with batons, the protesters engaged in a face-off with the Police, who later had to resort to aerial firing and shelling to disperse the violent protesters.

They burnt tires, blocked the main road, and chanted loud slogans against the incompetency of the authorities.

The protest was staged by Islami Jamiat Tuleba (IJT) to capture the murders of their fellow Punjab University student, Owais Aqeel.

Despite heavy security, the protesters managed to reach Lahore High Court and retaliated to the police by throwing stones.

Two policemen were injured during the protests, while 13 protesters were taken under arrest
