GALLE: Pakistani team was struggling at 48-5 at the close of play on Day 2.

The Pakistani team started their batting on Saturday, in response to Sri Lankan’s mammoth total of 472. The batting line-up for Pakistan kept tumbling at regular intervals with no batsman showing confidence at the crease. Younis Khan (15*) and Mohammad Ayub (1*) were at the crease when bails were taken off to end day 2 of the first test match.

Batsmen Azhar Ali, Saeed Ajmal and Asad Shafiq departed without troubling the scorers. All the three batsmen returned to the pavilion with a duck.

Besides them, the other dismissed batsmen included captain Mohammad Hafeez (20) and Taufiq Umar (9).

Earlier, Sri Lankan star batsman, Kumar Sangakkara, was held from scoring a double century when the last man (Nuwan Pradeep) accompanying him was bowled out for a duck by Mohammad Hafeez.

Nuwan Kulasekra and Suraj Randiv were the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka, each grabbing two wickets.
