LAHORE: Pakistan suffered a loss of $1.198 billion in its July-May 2011-12 textile exports as compared to same period of FY2010-11 mainly due to gas and electricity shortages.
According to the export data released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics, Pakistan exported textile products worth $11.273826 billion in eleven months as against $12.472255 billion of July-May of last fiscal year. The data indicated that Pakistan’s textile exports of May 2012 were also negative by 112.109 million as against May of 2011.
According to official figures the country suffered 20 percent loss in the export earnings of cotton yarn ($405 million), 13 percent loss in knitwear export ($273 million), bed wear ($282 million negative), cotton cloth $72 million negative, towel $65 million loss.
Art, silk, and synthetic textile dropped from $591 million to $497 million during this period. (online)
