GALLE: Sri Lankan team registered a massive victory over Pakistan in the first of the three test match series on Monday. Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by 209 with one day of play remaining in the test match.
Sri Lanka’s mammoth first inning total of 472 played a pivotal role towards the home team victory. The home team carried on their ODI’s emphatic form and sealed a victory in the first test match on the 4th day.
Pakistan started their batting on the 4th day, requiring 474 runs to win, with night watchman Saeed Ajmal and veteran Younis Khan on the crease. The Sri Lankans dominated the game by grabbing Pakistani wickets at regular intervals. Younis Khan (87) and Asad Shafiq (80) were the only notable performance for the Pakistani team.
The entire Pakistani team was dismissed for a total score 300 runs. Suraj Randiv was the pick of the bowlers for the Sri Lankan team on the fourth day, grabbing 3 wickets. Kumar Sangakkara was adjudged the man of the match for his unbeaten 199* in the first innings of the test match.
