US missiles kill 2 in northwest Pakistan

By: Fawad Khan, Uploaded: 2nd June 2012

Pakistani intelligence officials say a suspected U.S. missile strike has killed two militants in a region along the Afghan border.

The officials say a pair of missiles hit a motorcycle near Dogh village in South Waziristan on Saturday, killing two militants who were riding on it. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to talk to the media.

The strike is part of America’s campaign to destroy al-Qaida and Taliban sanctuaries in Pakistani tribal regions. The covert program is a cause of tension between the U.S. and Pakistan.

Despite Pakistan’s demands for a halt in the drone attacks, the U.S. has fired scores of missiles into northwest Pakistan since 2008, targeting al-Qaida and Taliban operatives there. AP
