HAMBANTOTA: India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his team have been fined part of their match fee for maintaining a slow over rate in the first one-day international against Sri Lanka.

The International Cricket Council said in a statement Sunday that India was one over short when the finishing time came in Saturday’s day-night match and Match Referee Chris Broad fined Dhoni 20 percent of his match fee and 10 percent from his teammates.

India won the match by 21 runs and went 1-0 up in the five-match series.

The second match will also be played at Hambantota on Tuesday.
