LONDON: Australia battered Pakistan 7-0 in a one-sided match of the Olympics hockey event on Tuesday. With this defeat, Pakistan’s hopes of winning a medal were put to an end.
Pakistan lost the important group A encounter against the Australian in what was termed to be a crucial tie for the Pakistani team to qualify the semi-finals of the event.
The helpless Pakistani defence was no match for the Australian forwards and the entire game was played within the Pakistani half.
The Australian team scored 4 goals in the first half while the remaining 3 were scored in the second.
With the win, Australia became the first team from group A to book a berth in the semi-final of the Olympics hockey event. The other semi-finalist would be decided following the match between Spain and Great Britain.
