Doctors continue strike in Balochistan although kidnapped medic returns

By: Alize Ahmed, Uploaded: 26th August 2012

QUETTA: Doctors continued their strike within Balochistan although their fellow doctor who had been kidnapped earlier was recovered recently.

The patients within the province are supposedly suffering the wrath of the protesting doctors, having to pay huge fees to private clinics as no free medical treatment is unavailable within the province.

Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Balochistan have demanded the reimbursement of the ransom money that had been paid in order to recover the abducted doctor. PMA Balochistan has threatened to continue the strike if the ransom money along with other demands of the doctors are not fulfilled by the government.

Meanwhile, the Health department officials have warned the doctors to call off the strike or else “they would weigh alternate options in this regard.”

The OPDs of the government hospitals have remained nonfunctional for the past 25 days as a result of the strike and the patients have had to suffer immensely as private clinics charge hefty sum.
