ISLAMABAD: The veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, has demanded the release of all illegally detained Hurriyet leaders and activists before Eid-ul-Fitr in Indian Held Kashmir.

According to KMS, Ali Gilani said presently there were 891 Kashmiris languishing in different jails, interrogation centres and police stations. “All the political detainees including Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Masarrat Aalam Butt, Mir Hafizullah, Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Muhammad Ayub Dar and Muhammad Ayub Mir should be released before Eid-ul-Fitr,” he said. The veteran Hurriyet leader maintained that the political prisoners lodged in Kot Bhalwal and Amphala jails of Jammu were being subjected to custodial torture.

He appealed to the Amnesty International and other international human rights organizations to take cognizance of the plight of the Kashmiri detainees lodged in different jails in and outside the Valley and exert pressure on New Delhi to ensure their release before Eid-ul-Fitr.

Gilani termed the slapping of draconian Public Safety Act once again on Masarrat Aalam Butt, Mir Hafizullah and Mushtaq-ul-Islam and their shifting to Jammu jails as the worst example of human rights violation. He said that the puppet administration was violating its own constitution and laws by detaining the Hurriyet leaders in jails. He deplored that the detainees were not released even on repeated court orders.

The veteran leader also called upon the people to take care of those families, whose dear ones were languishing in different jails on the auspicious occasions of Shab-i-Qadr and Eid-ul-Fitr.
