Citizens of Karachi city were left with no electricity for almost two days, as repeated blackouts occurred throughout major areas of the city since Saturday, Aaj News reported.
According to reports, last night, major parts of the city were in a blackout state as the supply of electricity was disrupted to areas like DHA, Clifton, Kharadar, Shah Faisal Col, Malir, II Chundrigarh Road, Lyari, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-jauher and other areas as well.
Citizens, harassed by the absence of electricity had to resort to candle light and gas lanterns to complete their Sehri. As UPS backup are not reliable for a longer duration of load shedding.
People who use generators as backup, use Sui Gas (Natural Gas) to power their generators, which also added pressure and choked the natural gas supply in various households at the time of Sehri.
When approached, the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) said that a couple of 200 KV power lines got tripped and caused a blackout in some parts of the city. KESC claimed that their service teams have been dispatched to the Bin Qasim Power Plant to start repair work, but failed to give a plausible explanation as to what initially caused the power lines to trip.
According to a KESC spokesperson, humidity factor was somehow affecting the supply of electricity.
