SC takes notice of Abidi’s press conference

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday took notice of a press Conference of the former senator PPP, Faisal Raza Abidi in which he hurled several allegations at Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry the previous day.

Moreover, PPP issued a show cause notice to the Senator.

The show-cause notice was issued to Senator Abidi by PPP Secretary General Jahangir Badar.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Faisal Raza Abidi on Sunday demanded a resignation from him (CJP) and other judges who were reinstated under the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO).

During a press conference in Islamabad, Abidi held Justice Chaudhry responsible for the alleged financial impropriety done by his son, Dr Arsalan Iftikhar. The senator said that if the chief justice does not tender a resignation, then he will “force him out from the same way he had been restored as a judge.”

“He [Justice Chaudhry] says that he did not have any idea where his son got all that money from…I ask, when the case emerged, did you ask him where he got Rs900 million from?” He alleged that Chief Justice Chaudhry had ordered Lahore High Court (LHC) to issue a stay-order in a case pertaining to the 46 billion rupees of outstanding dues on different cellular companies. Abidi said that his party will “force him out the same way he had been restored as a judge.”

He said that the PPP has always respected the courts, our ministers appeared before the courts and even we sacrificed our prime minister.

Abidi said that “a judicial martial-law has been imposed in the country.” The senator showed bank account statements of Arsalan Iftikhar and raised questions about the legitimacy of his assets. He also showed that the billing address mentioned was that of the Chief Justice House in Islamabad.

Abidi said that he will soon go to London to collect evidences against Arsalan Iftikhar and will call another press conference after 10 days.
