ISLAMABAD: Shireen Mazari resigned from her post as Central Vice President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in what seemed to be a much anticipated resignation. She announced her decision while addressing press conference at the National Press Club on Wednesday.
Shireen Mazari primarily sighted a change in the party’s initial ideology to be the pivotal reason for leaving PTI. Her resignation letter was made public via her daughter’s ‘word press’ blog account.
Mazari, in her resignation letter, stated that she was vengefully issued the show-cause notice following her outburst against the party at the Rajanpur jalsa where Imran Khan was to make a personal visit. She also expressed her disappointment over the shameful remarks that had been passed against her daughter by PTI workers following the issue and added that she chose not to answer the show-cause notice as it was ‘factually incorrect’.
Mazari expressed that the PTI’s ‘Lahore Jalsa’ in October 2011 was the initial issue that instigated the change in the ideology. She stated that following the successful Lahore ‘jalsa’, Imran Khan could have selected anyone from his middle class followers to be part of the collective leadership but contrastingly Imran chose the elites and the traditional politicians ; a step that was totally against the basic fundamental principle of the party.
In her tweets, Mazari stated that she had to ‘regretfully resign as people had real hopes with PTI’. She also added that she was not quitting the party to pursue a political role in any other party, rather she would love to serve the party again if it reverted back to its original character and ideology.
