Speaking to the media, Rehman Malik said that 13 different areas which are believed to be sensitive and prone to terrorist attacks will experience the suspension of mobile services on the day of Eid.
According to his media briefing, cell phone services are likely to go down during the Eid Prayers. But in some areas it will be suspended from 6 am to 10 am.
Rehman Malik revealed that this was a necessary action that needed to be taken in order to avoid any unfortunate event on the day of Eid. He said that some credible threats to National Security, have facilitated ample reason to take such actions.
Malik denied the allegations that it was his idea to block cell phones. He showed the letters from provincial governments during his media briefing in Islamabad and said that it was a collective decision. The decision to shut down services was taken in a five-member committee meeting which was headed by the secretary interior, he added.
