PESHAWAR: The funeral prayers of the six police officers, who were martyred by the militants earlier today was offered in Peshawar, reported Aaj news.
The Funeral Prayer of Khurshid and other slain cops were attended besides others Khyber Pakthunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar, Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, Senior Ministers Bashir Ahmed Bilour, Rahimdad Khan, Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain, IGP Akbar Khan Hoti, provincial ministers, MPAs and elites of the area besides residents of the City and police officials in large number.
A smartly contingent of KP Police presented salute to the coffin of the deceased. Later, the body of the slain SP was shifted to Dhagi Charsadda for burial. Tight security arrangements were made on this occasion.
According to the officials, Militants armed with guns and rockets attacked a police checkpost overnight, sparking gun battles that left six police officers dead, Monday.
The attack took place in the Mattani area on the outskirts of Peshawar.
“Dozens of militants attacked the checkpost, killing six policemen including senior official Khurshid Khan and two paramilitary FC (Frontier Constabulary) men,” local police official Nasim Hayat told AFP.
The militants set fire to the checkpost and three police vehicles, before fleeing, Hayat said.
Another police official, Sher Muhammad, who was wounded in the attack, confirmed the incident and casualties.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
