ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court issued summon notices for Babar Awan and former Law Secretary with respect to delaying the ‘Nandipur’ and ‘Chichu ki Maliyan’ power projects on Wednesday. The case was heard by a three member bench of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice.
The petitioner, Khawaja Asif of PML-N group stated that delaying the ‘Nandipur’ and the ‘Chichu ki Maliyan’ power projects resulted in severe losses to country’s treasury. Placing the entire burden of the losses on the Law Ministry, Khawaja Asif stated that the losses would have amounted to an approximate figure of Rs 150 billion.
Upon hearing this, the Cheif Justice in his remarks inquired as to why such issues were not resolved within the Parliament. Responding to the remarks, Khawaja Asif said that the executives had taken the Parliament as a hostage and the issue was not properly addressed within the Parliament which led Asif to seek justice from the SC.
Justice Khawaja in his remarks stated that the entire nation wants the SC to resolve all the issues prevailing within the country but it is almost impossible for 17 Judges the govern and administer the entire country.
Later the Court issued summon notices for former Law Minister Babar Awan and Law Secretary Masood Chishti before finally adjourning the hearing till November 7.
