ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected the application to place Malik Riaz’s name on Exit Control List (ECL) and appointed a Qazi Jameel as the new prosecutor for Malik Riaz’s case.

Malik Riaz’s contempt of Court case was heard within the Supreme Court by Justice Aijaz Afzal and Justice Aijaz Chaudhry. During the hearing, the Court was informed that Malik Riaz could not attend the hearing because of ill-health.

The SC proceeded on with the hearing and ordered the removal of Attorney General Irfan Qadir from the case. Following the announcement of the removal, Court appointed Qazi Jameel as the new prosecutor within the case hoping that he would make swift progress within the case.

Qazi Jameel is a veteran lawyer who has earlier served as the Attorney General of Pakistan and has also held the Presidency of the Supreme Court Bar Association in the past.
