ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Thursday that in 1990 Islami Jamhoori Ittehad (IJI) was formed to prevent the Pakistan Peoples Party from coming to power through general elections.
Talking to media persons here the minister said that formation of IJI was result of the venom against Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto,Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and the PPP and its purpose was to steal the mandate of the people through ulterior motives.
Lt Gen (retd) Hameed Gul had served the nation in the past and whatever he is doing now is in front of the nation. He should take
pity on the nation and let the elected leadership of the nation and the national institutions work.
His institution should take notice of his activities during service as he has himself said that he formed the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad (IJI) in his personal capacity and as a serving general what was his personal capacity.”If his office, his home, and his institution were used in the formation the IJI,then he is answerable to the nation”,said the minister.
” No one has the right to become the security adviser of the nation himself, this is the job of the state”,said the minister.
Hameed Gul has created a lot of problems for the nation in the past and now he should refrain from issuing such irresponsible statements.Kaira said that Gen Hameed Gul has also said that he does not recognize Bangladesh as independent state which is also treason and the Constitution recognizes Bangladesh as independent state.
Kaira advised General Hameed Gul to be careful in choice of diction and tone as despite difference of opinion one should use decent language.
To a question about Lahore High Court verdict on Kalabagh dam,he said that elected forums can make decisions on such issues.Involvement of judiciary in such matters should be avoided as it would not serve any purpose.
The judiciary should also show restraint on issues of political nature and as a nation we should also try not to drag it in to matters of political issues ,he said.
On the issue of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) price matter he said that matter was sub judice and he would not comment on it.
” On those matter which are sub judice,we should not hold debates or make comments”,said the minister.
