Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi has dropped a scheduled visit to Pakistan in order to follow up the implementation of a truce between Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip, state television reported Thursday.
Morsi has delegated his deputy Mahmoud Mekki to attend on his behalf a summit of eight developing Muslim countries due to start in the Pakistani capital Islamabad on Thursday.
“The president is keen to follow up the developments at home and to strengthen commitments of all parties to the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip,” the president’s office said in a statement. DPA
