Posted by: Maliha, Uploaded: 29th November 2012

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf cancelled off prior instructions of Rehman Malik on security and telecommunication issues on Thursday. The ‘null and void’ orders from PM came after the PM allowed the sale of cellphone SIMs to be conducted at their respective franchises.

PM Raja Pervaiz Ashraf met the owners of all the cell phone companies and held a meeting with them. Following the meeting, PM allowed them to issue SIMs from their respective franchises after proper authentication from NADRA.

The PM also allowed the companies to carry on their Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service which allowed users to change their cellphone service provider while retaining their old number.

PM also ordered Interior and the IT Ministry to ban all cell phones which did not have any IMEI number. He ordered all the concerning authorities to ensure that each handset sold within the market must be bearing its unique identification number (IMEI).

PM lauded Rehman Malik’s decision to ban cellular services during the month of Muharram, stating that it served its purpose well and was in the best interest of people.
