QUETTA: At least four passengers have been killed and 10 others seriously injured in firing on Jaffar Express by armed men in Kohsar area of Kachhi Bolan district on Saturday night.
Official sources in Pakistan Railways told APP that Jaffar Express coming from Rawalpindi was on way to Quetta when it was attacked by unidentified armed men in mountainous area of Bolan.
“Unknown armed assailants opened fire at the train, leaving four passengers dead and 10 others critically wounded,” they said.
An exchange of fire took place between the law enforcement personnel on security duty on train and the armed assailants, however, the accused managed to escape, the official sources added.
The sources added that the firing also damaged the locomotive of the train.
The personnel of the law enforcement agencies including Frontier Corps, Pakistan Railways Police and Levies Force rushed to the site and cordoned off the entire area.
A search operation has also been launched to arrest the suspects.
The train has reached Quetta Railway Station and the dead and injured have been shifted to hospital.
According to doctors, condition of the some injured is critical and they have been referred to Combined Military Hospital Quetta.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani has strongly condemned the attack that caused loss of lives.
He directed the authorities to submit report in this regard.
He also prayed for the departed souls and early recovery of the injured.
