ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (Retd) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim on Wednesday recommended that army personnel remain present at polling stations until the release of the results during the upcoming general elections.
Presiding over a session of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in Islamabad, Ebrahim said a stable law and order situation during the elections would ensure that the polls’ fairness and transparency.
He further said that the only way to achieve parliamentary democracy was to hold fair and transparent elections, adding that complying with the law was a national responsibility.
The chief election commissioner recommended that army personnel remain present at polling stations until the release of the election results.
He further said that lack of transparency during the upcoming general elections would harm political parties the most, not the EC.
