A CNG cylinder exploded in a taxi in Khayaban-e-Rahat, Karachi on Wednesday 2nd January, 2013 – no casualties or injuries have been reported yet.
It was not immediately clear whether it was a bomb blast or a Cylinder explosion – but media reports concluded it to be a CNG cylinder malfunction.
Karachi, home to 18 million people, is the financial capital of Pakistan but has been plagued by militancy as well as violent crime. Murder rate in Karachi hit an all time high last year as over 2500 people died in violent crime and there was a significant 50% increase over the year before.
