Farhan Akhtar to lead campaign against ‘rape and discrimination’

Posted by: Fawad Khan, Uploaded: 13th March 2013

Versatile talent Farhan Akhtar has recently launched a campaign against the rape and discrimination of women. ‘MARD’ (Men against Rape and Discrimination), where the 39-year-old has vowed to spread awareness against gender in-equality and rape through social media sites like Twitter.

The idea was originated when one of his 25-year-old employees Pallavi Purkavastha was brutally raped and assaulted by the watchman in August last year.

He has revealed his future plans regarding the campaign on the sidelines of “Shaadi Ke Side Effects” shoot where he will also invite schools and colleges to take part in the movement “to drive home the message that women need to be respected.”

It seems the entire Bollywood industry has come forward to support his cause as Priyanka Chopra, Arjun Rampal, Sonam Kapoor and Shabana Azmi have already started passionately re-tweeting his tweet in an effort to get the subject matter trending. He also received support from superstar Shahrukh Khan and newly-wed Vidya Balan for the noble cause.
