ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has given approval for a new national power policy; now there will be no subsidy for consumers using over 300 units of gas and electricity, media reports.
After a long consultation with all stakeholders, a new national power policy has been formed by the new regime and very soon, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will announce it in his address to the Nation.
New power policy suggests new procedure of payments after eliminating circular debt. It suggests that the power plants will get payments in 45 to 60 days while gas companies will get their payments in 45 days, informed sources.
Those power plants to be given loans, which are facing shortage of funds, after Iran, now power should be imported from Turkmenistan and India, coal based power projects to be launched, power production to be mounted up to 26,824 megawatts, and Rs. 135 billions’ power theft should be reduced 50 percent at least, suggests the new power policy.
Now no subsidy will be rendered to those consumers of power and gas, who use over 300 units while an action will be taken within 60 days against defaulters.
All provinces’ dues will be deducted from the NFC Award and gas tariff will be increased for all except small domestic consumers
