LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz lawmakers in the Punjab Assembly have dubbed Punjab Budget 2013-14 pro-poor and welfare-oriented.
Talking to APP on Tuesday, the legislator Rana Mohammed Arshad credited provincial Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja- Ur- Rehman for presenting a balanced budget in which almost all sectors were taken into account.
He noted that allocation amounting to Rs. 93 billion for the development works in south Punjab would help eliminate sense of deprivation among the locals.
On this occasion the legislators Bau Akhtar, Ghazali Butt,Majid Zahoor,Yawar Hayyat,Mian Munir, Khawaja Imran Nazir,and Zakia Shahnawaz said 26 percent increase in the allocation for education and 14 percent in the health would bring improvement in these two important sectors.
They said imposition of tax was imperative to continue the process of austerity and simplicity,and appreciated Punjab government for cutting 30 percent expenditure of the CM House.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Workers Confederation (PWC) SecretaryGeneral Khurshid Ahmed has welcomed the pro-poor Budget.
He said the increase in monthly wages of labourers was commendable.
“Though the government gave good budget but it should opt to restructure its departments,especially excise & taxation and police to get better output”, Former Vice-President Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Abdul Basit, added.
