LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday recalled bail orders of Shakeel Nagra, Plant General Manger of Efroze Pharmaceutical, in Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) spurious medicines case after he failed to appear before the court despite summoned.
Justice Ali Baqar Najfi passed the orders on petitions filed by the Punjab Prosecution Department for bail cancellation of seven accused of PIC scam. The court adjourned further hearing till September 16 and sought arguments from parties to the extent of remaining accused.
As proceedings started, Additional Prosecutor General (APG) Punjab Abdul Samad argued that the respondents were using tactics to delay the matter. He pleaded the court to decide the matter on merit.
However, the respondents counsel told the court that the Apex court was also hearing a suo motu case regarding the matter and Efroze Pharma owners had offered to pay them to the affectees with condition of withdrawing cases.
However, the APG submitted the Punjab government through a reply told the Apex court that it would not withdraw the cases despite payment of compensation.
The accused’ counsel said that the matter was pending with the Apex Court who had directed respondents to file reply to the government report.
The APG said the Supreme Court had not issued any restraining order to the court, therefore, it should decide the case on merit. He pleaded the court to cancel the bail granted to Shakeel Nagra as he failed to appear before the court despite being summoned many times.
The court after hearing the arguments of the parties recalled bail orders of Shakeel Nagra and adjourned the matter till September 16 directing parties to submit arguments on next date of hearing.
The Punjab Prosecution Department through their petitions pleaded the court to cancel bail granted to Nadir Feroze (Director Efroze Pharmaceutical), Shakeel Nagra ( Plant General Manager) and PIC officials including Muhammad Yousaf (pharmacist/store in-charge), Zulfiqar Ali (storekeeper), Dr Nasir Mehmood, Dr Warris Ghaba and Dr Ameer Ali.
