ISLAMABAD: The opposition members in the National Assembly on Wednesday urged the government to take the House into confidence on all important domestic and international issues.
Speaking on a point of order, Leader of the Opposition Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah said there were host of issues being confronted by the nation and the government should take the parliament into confidence on all of them.
He said the issues included dialogue with Taliban, Taliban office in Doha, Line of Control (LoC) situation, establishing of National Security Council and future of Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM).
He said that the Prime Minister’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs should come to the House and explain the government’s position on the issues.
Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf’s Parliamentary Leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi endorsed the viewpoint of Khursheed Shah and said the Doha dialogue would have long-lasting implications for the whole region. The House should be taken into confidence about Pakistan’s role in the dialogue, he added.
He said there were speculations that the United States was going to take some important decision regarding Syria. “What will be the government’s stance if the US forces launch an attack against Syria?” he asked.
Syed Asif Hasnain of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement said that the government should take Indian aggression along the LoC seriously. The role of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in coping with the flood situation should also be explained, he added.
He requested the Chair to activate the Parliamentary Committee constituted during the previous government’s tenure to look into fuel prices issue as hike in petroleum prices was on the cards.
Awami Muslim League’s chief Sheikh Rashid, Jamaat Islami Parliamentary Leader Sahibzada Tariqullah and Jamshed Dasti also demanded the government to clarify its position on all important issues and urged the PM’s Advisor to give a detailed briefing to the parliamentarians.
Syed Naveed Qamar of the Pakistan People’s Party said all the issues including imminent US attack on Syria and LoC situation were very important and the government should take the parliament into confidence in the next two days.
