LAHORE: Chief Justice Lahore High Court has asked the Punjab Government to give a final date by 25th September for the holding of Local Government elections.
During the heading of a petition against the holding of local government elections on non party basis, Chief Justice Umer Atta Bandial asked from the Acting Advocate General Punjab Mustafa Ramday as to why Punjab was holding local government elections on non party basis where as the other three provinces would do so on party basis. Petitions against non party elections were filed by PTI’s Sobia Kamal and Majlis-e-Wahadat-e-Muslameen.
Mr Ramday submitted before the court that as Chief Minister was out of the country, he could not get directions. He requested for the deferment of the case till next month.
The Chief Justice made it clear that no delay in the local government elections would be tolerated and directed him to get the final date from the Punjab Government and informed the court on 25th September.
