KARACHI: An officer of Pakistan Navy was gunned down in Karachi as violence continued in the city despite government efforts to curb the ongoing incidents of targeted-killings, media reported.
The martyred officer was identified as Captain Nadeem, a senior officer of the Pakistan Navy.
Police said the officer’s wife was also injured in the gun attack when his vehicle was fired upon by miscreants in a drive-by attack near National Stadium.
The officer suffered fatal gunshot wounds and died before he could be taken to hospital, whereas his wife was shifted to PNS Shifa with bullet injuries.
Law enforcement agencies surrounded the area in a bid to search the attackers.
At least 13 people have been killed since night in violence incidents across the city.
The navy officer’s murder came when PM Nawaz Sharif is in the city on his two-day visit to review the worsening law-and-order situation after getting briefings in high-level sessions and holding meetings with political leadership.
However, orders for a decisive crackdown against criminals are yet to be issued.
