ISLAMABAD: The US Ambassador to Pakistan, Richard G. Olson on Friday vowed to continue cooperation with Pakistan in various hydro power projects for overcoming long standing energy crisis in Pakistan.
Hydro electricity was a cheaper way for generating energy that had zero impacts on environment, he added.
In a media interview, he said that Gomal Zam Dam project would produce 17.4 MW electricity, adding that the dam would irrigate a big area of Gomal to Dera Ismeil Khan.
He said that a road was also constructed with the cooperation of USAID and Frontier Works Organization (FWO) that would help to increase trade and commerce activities in South Waziristan.
Replying to a question, the Ambassador said that Dia Mir Bhasha Dam was a big power project and the key issue for Pakistan government was to make financial plan in this regard.
He said that private sector should also invest in this mega project.
Olson said that release of funds for Bhasha Dam was expected after getting approval from Congress. The technical issues to the project should also be discussed, he added.
He said that they were also cooperating Pakistan in a Wind Power project in Sindh province. NNI
