KARACHI: Supreme Court on Friday resumed hearing of Karachi law-and-order suo motu implementation case during which Prosecutor General made astonising announcements before the bench.
Prosecutor General Shahadat Awan told the five-judge larger bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, that over 33,000 escapees have been at large in Karachi, and nearly 1500 of them were wanted in terrorism cases.
During the proceedings, Chief Justice mentioned that crime rate could have come down had the police shown a little sincerity. “All this would not have taken place had the government wiped out police of politics,” he observed.
A bench hearing the case include Justices Jawwad S. Khawaja, Khilji Arif Hussain, Amir Hani Muslim and Azmat Saeed.
On Thursday, the Chief Secretary Sindh, Advocate General Sindh, IG Sindh police, Rangers chief and other officials submitted their reports to the high court.
