ASTANA: Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister Planning, Development and Reforms here on Thursday said that the cooperation among countries in Central Asia Region can bring great opportunities of growth and prosperity for the region and global economy.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has made regional connectivity projects a top priority area for his government, Ahsan Iqbal said while addressing Two-day 12th ministerial conference on Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Ministerial Meeting of Central Asia Region Economic Cooperation (CAREC), ten country forum with China and Pakistan as members, in Astana, Kazakhistan today.
The Federal Minister said that Central Asian region has rich human resource, natural resources, and geography.
“We need to leverage this advantage by making the region competitive through cooperation and collaboration in infrastructure development, reforms in policies, and promoting environment for exchange of people, goods, and services”, he remarked.”
Prof. Ahsan Iqbal added, “the new global economy is marked by challenges of globalization, regionalization, Knowledge and Information Revolution, climate change and food security, and peace and harmony.
The region will face new challenges in post 2014 scenario when NATO forces will withdraw from Afghanistan.
There is a need to transform billions of dollars war economy into trade and commerce economy by promoting regional connectivity infrastructure projects.
Pakistan is developing economic corridors which will bring great opportunities for the region.”
