LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that a programme had been evolved to give targeted subsidy directly to the poorest of the poor.
He directed the authorities concerned to evolve a plan to provide Sasti Roti to labourers and low income people through mechanical tandoors. He said that the committee set up under the chairmanship of Provincial Education Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan would submit final recommendations about the project within two weeks.
He was presiding over a high level meeting regarding mechanical tandoors and launching of a welfare programmed for low income people, here on Tuesday. Provincial Minister for Food
Bilal Yasin, Minister for Education Rana Mashhhod Ahmad Khan, former MNA Hanif Abbasi, MPA Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Chief Secretary, Chairman Planning & Development Department and concerned officers were present. Secretary Industries Irfan Ali gave a briefing on mechanical tandoors for provision of Sasti Roti to the poor.
Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that service to the people is a form of worship and all out resources would be provided for facilitating deprived and low income people of the society.
He said that programmes started by the Punjab government during its last tenure to provide relief to re sourceless people would continue in future as well.
The Chief Minister directed that a practicable project regarding provision of Sasti Roti to the low income and deprived segments of the society as well as labourers be evolved as soon as possible.
He said that a pilot project be formulated for supply of Sasti Roti through these tandoors with the cooperation of philanthropists while factory owners and businessmen be contacted with regard to mechanical tandoors. He said that the programme of mechanical tandoors be furthered in a transparent manner.
