ISLAMABAD: Viktor P. Ivanov, Director Federal Drug Control Service of the Russian Federation on Thursday called on President Mamnoon Hussain at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.
Bilateral relations between Pakistan and Russia with particular focus on drug and narcotics control came under discussion during the meeting.
Discussing bilateral ties, the President said that diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Russia have seen encouraging growth in the past few years due to bilateral contacts at various levels between the two countries.
The President said that Pakistan considers Russia as a factor of stability and peace in the region and the world, adding that close ties and cooperation between the two countries would help strengthen regional and world peace and security.
The government of Pakistan accords highest priority and has been actively involved with UN and other international counter-narcotics partners to combating narco-trade and drug trafficking.
The President termed the drug trafficking a great menace and urged the need for joint efforts and collective fight to completely eliminate illicit drugs and narcotics.
The President said that Pakistan highly appreciate the support of Russian Federation in the field of narcotics control and expressed hope that bilateral cooperation will continue in this regard. The President said that effective control of narcotics production and drug trafficking would contribute to peace and stability in the region.
Director Federal Drug Control Service of the Russian Federation, Viktor P. Ivanov, thanked the President for meeting and appreciated Pakistan’s role in supporting regional initiatives to combat drug trafficking.
Those who attended the meeting included Ahmad Farooq, Secretary to the President, Nawabzada Muhammad Akbar Khan Hoti, Secretary, Narcotics Control Division, Ms. Saba Mohsin Raza, Press Secretary to the President and Ms. Tasnim Aslam, Additional Secretary Foreign Affairs.
Russian Ambassador in Islamabad, Andery BUDNIK and other high officials of the Russian embassy were also present during the meeting.
