ISLAMABAD: Illegal construction in shape of small enclosure outside of houses occupying space of streets is going unchecked in various sectors of the Federal Capital.
However, the concerned department of Capital Development Authority (CDA) has turned a blind eye to this illegal practice which is not only grabbing government land but also causing problems for the neighbours as well as pedestrians, said Alam Khan, a resident of G-7 sector.
This illegal practice is more common in areas including G-6, G-7, G-9 and I-10 with construction of rooms on roofs of houses and government quarters.
While talking to APP, a resident of G-9 said,”There are number of houses which have been extended about four to five feet outside of original boundaries as a result occupying large space in streets which ultimately hinders people parking their vehicles”.
Akhtar Saleem, a resident of I-10 sector informed,”We often bear this problem at night when all the residents park their vehicles outside their homes.”
There are a number of cities with mushroom growth and no planning, but here in the Capital, we have a proper department to check such extension which should do its job.
When contacted, senior CDA official, said that the Authority has been carrying out anti encroachment drives and operations to remove illegal extensions inside and outside of the houses at various sectors.
“Although, we have not received fresh applications against illegal construction but we take action after due investigation as and when we receive any complaint.”
Regarding illegal construction in government houses, an official of Estate Office said that his department is fully aware of it but a proper mechanism and force is required to stop this illegal practice.
He acknowledged that due to the indifferent attitude of the authorities, the illegal construction by the residents is on the rise in various sectors.
