ISLAMABAD: Secretary Aviation and Chairman Civil Aviation Authority Board,Muhammad Ali Gardezi said on Wednesday that the Civil Aviation Authority is actively working on a new Islamabad airport project which sould be completed by 2015.
In an interview with PTV,he said CAA required sufficient financial help and resources for working on this project uninterruptedly.
He said that by introduction of transparent policy and rules by the government,the CAA can turn new Islamabad Airport into a vibrant and beneficial place for future airlines passengers.
He said that due to persistent problems of congestion and many other issues,the govt is actively pursuing work on this project and is in contact with all international and national flights schedule for future purposes.
He said that 53 % area of the main building of the airport, cargo sheds, runways are almost ready adding that the NHA is actively working day and night so that the airtraffic might start soon.
He said there were 44 airports which were active by the time for departure and arrival of the domestic and international flights across the country.
He said that the airports were the major source of revenue for country and there were total 3 to 4 airports for flights landing and overflights which were major revenue collector that fulfill country’s financial needs.
“We have 16 million passengers traffic yearly that is available on our major airports and will be increased 23 million by year 2020 adding that we have one lac 47 thousands aircraft landing which will be increased more for future heavy air traffic”, he added.
He said, “we have planned to use old airports for domestic flights and new airports for our international flights adding that sufficient funding arrangements, installing immigration desk on the airports will help enhance our working plan and resolve our problems.”
He said that CAA is also working on major airports of Lahore, Peshawar and Karachi and providing them with more facilities of land, bridges around them added that Quetta airport is under redo and renovate stage and another Gawader airport is under construction.
He said in order to save National Flag carrier from foreign airlines, flights’ hegemony, air service agreements such as Freedom traffic agreement are under process.
“We are trying our best to remove encroachments and rubbish around airports especially near Lahore airport as it causes great danger to the flights because big birds come near to them and cause danger to the airlines”, he added.
Regarding PIA he said it is a very safe airline; “our aging fleet issues are there but our engineer have maintained them ;we are inducting more airplanes such as Wet Lease 7378 hundred planes by the end of November ; other A319 and 320 ,10 bus crafts, big plane 777 should be used on big routes, fuel efficient planes are under project.
