Board of Directors of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has approved to acquire 10 more aircraft of A319 and A320 family, expected to join PIA fleet from May 2014 onwards. A PIA official sharing details of the approval here on Sunday said the decision was made during a special meeting chaired by Secretary Aviation and PIA Chairman, Muhammad Ali Gardezi and attended by Managing Director PIA, Muhammad Junaid Yunus, PIA Board Members and senior officials of the airline.
PIA plans to acquire these fuel efficient aircraft which not only pertain to latest technology but are also according to its needs and specifications.
These A319 and A320 aircraft were said to be used by most of the airlines and are famous for their seating capacity and fuel economies.
PIA has already finalised the process of selection of aircraft which will be acquired on dry lease, said the official. The approval of decision was termed as a positive sign for the airline which is in dire need of aircraft to meet demand and competition faced by regional carriers.
PIA has recently inducted two Boeing 737-800 on damp lease while two more 737-800 will join PIA fleet in a couple of weeks time. For the acquisition of lease aircraft the PPRA rules and complete transparency has been strictly followed, said the official.
